Maybe we can figure it out together.

My Black Dog is a collection of stories and encounters that relate to our everyday lives. We fear, we doubt, we hide, we cry. We have taken the emotions that often exist behind closed doors to reveal them, own them and nurture them.
We hope that this work encourages us all to accept our failings and vulnerabilities and emboldens us to let others in and to talk more to one another, trusting that friendship can comfort and hold us when we need it most.

My Black Dog has been designed to explore and support the mental health of young people in regional locations. One in four young people will experience a mental health issue of some kind within their life. Many young people do not seek professional help out of fear of being stigmatized, bullied, or maybe not recognizing that they need support. FLING’s My Black Dog aims to address the stigma surrounding Mental Health and generate conversation within our community.
Created with the FLING Company, My Black Dog has been directed by Melbourne based artist Kate Denborough, in collaboration with Co Artistic Directors Gabrielle Rose, Rob McCredie and FLING staff. Denborough has a strong reputation for creating dynamic original works as Co Artistic Director of KAGE, including works engaging with health issues with openness and sensitivity.
FLING has partnered with mental health practitioners who are supporting the safe delivery of all aspects of the project.

HEALTH AND WELLBEING WORKSHOPS
Alongside the development of the Performance work, FLING has developed a program of Health and Wellbeing workshops for highschool students. The workshop program is being offered free of charge to highschools around the Bega Valley. The workshop series is designed to create space to support mental health issues facing students, providing practical skills in coping with stress, building resilience and practicing self compassion.
If you would like to see these workshops in your school, get in touch with us.
