BODY AND ENVIRONMENT was first presented as a live work in Bega in June 2018 and received an Australian Dance Award for Outstanding Achievement in Youth Dance.
The project was intended to tour in 2020 but was put on hold due to the pandemic. In response to being unable to tour FLING created a stunning film of the project that premiered to rave reviews at Riverside Theatre Parramatta presented by FORM Dance Projects in November 2022.
In December 2022, our BODY AND ENVIRONMENT film screened at the Bega Valley Commemorative Civic Centre to a full house of local audience.
This special evening of dance on film celebrated FLING's 21st year, and also premiered new dance film work by FLING Alumni Jazmyn Carter, titled WHOSE THOUGHTS ARE THEY.

A physical journey through psychological spaces
Set within a unique transforming set installation, Body and Environment features the FLING Company, made up of 13 young performers from the Bega Valley. A suspended web of 64 interconnected shirts is manipulated by the performers to create a series of spaces; from architectural structures to natural environments, public and private spaces, to the subconscious internal landscapes of the mind.
Body and Environment is a meditation on how the spaces we move through consciously and unconsciously affect our everyday lives and shape our imaginative worlds.

BODY AND ENVIRONMENT was developed as a continuation of a long-term collaboration between Co Artistic Director Rob McCredie and Melbourne based Independent Dancer and Choreographer Holly Durant. Their collaborative work has explored the relationship of dance and design, including a range of immersive installations and costumes, playing with amplifying movement while framing, revealing and concealing the body, and has seen them working together in the UK, France, Melbourne and Sydney.
