"These youngsters are very pleased with what they can do and so they should be, what they do is impressive. fLiNG is a jewel to be treasured. " by Alex Nicol 2011
Welcome to fLiNG Physical Theatre
fLiNG is Bega's professionally supported youth dance company. Founded in 2001 fLiNG's mission is is to inspire young people through original, contemporary physical theatre. The purposes of the Organisation are to provide a non profit structure that will:
• support the delivery of a training program in dance & physical theatre
• host residencies by guest artists
• create and develop new work
• encourage artistic collaboration and innovation
• produce performances and tours to a professional standard
The goals of the Organisation are to establish a flagship company for the region that contributes to the development of young people and the cultural life of the community and to support the professional development of artists of the cultural industries in the South East. This project supports the company's main aims and objectives. It also benefits the employ of professional Artists and brings artists of a high calibre work in the region.
fLiNG Physical Theatre has existed in the Bega Valley since 2001 and has an exceptional track record of managing youth performing arts projects now spanning 10years. We have toured broadly in the region from Eden & Tathra to Bombala Skate Parks and Moruya as well as to theatres in Wollongong, Bathurst, Parramatta and Sydney.
Our local season audience numbers have been as high as 1,200 people in a town of 7,000. Our performance projects have included works created with students at regional schools as well as workshops for our performance seasons held locally and at Wollongong's Merrigong Theatre and WSDA in Parramatta.
Our largest performance troupe was in a community cultural development show called AWAKE where 88 performers strutted their stuff, the age range of performers were 80 years to 8years. The company has worked with Aerial dance before but this project will support our capacity, skills and knowledge further in the development of this aesthetic.
